A Late Monday Afternoon Lunch: Ice Edge Cafe.

Nestled at a quaint area in the midst of private estates and at the back of condominiums in Kovan, this unpretentious, cosy little cafe is perfect in serving residents around the district. However, it is still pretty much accessible with just a 5-minutes walk from Kovan MRT and a public car park beside the cafe. Ice Edge Cafe is also a great eatery to have a wonderful and relaxing lunch/dinner with your family and friends.

Opened for almost three years, this cafe originally started as a Gelato shop before expanding their menu with the introduction of both Italian and Western cuisines. Price wise, a little on the high side but it boils down to food and service which has made this cafe, a must try! They are currently having a 1-for-1 weekday promotion which we think is really worth it.

With everything on their menu looking so appetizing, we were in a minor dilemma on which we should pick. Our final choices, Calamari Fritti, Buffallo Wings, Beer Battered Fish n' Chips, and Tom Yum Seafood Linguine.

We were a little disappointed that salads and pizzas were not available but we were recommended to Calamari Fritti which I must say was a good choice.

Fresh rings of squid with the option of either Chef's Tomato Sauce or Tom Yum Sauce but the waitress was nice enough to let us have both to try. The Tom Yum sauce was a hit. Sweet, sourish and salty yet not too spicy, this sauce leaves your taste buds yearning for more. The texture of the squids were also tender and not rubbery, coated with their own mixed batter which was done to crisp perfection.

A chicken lover like me, should with no doubt try the well marinated Buffalo Wings. Marinated with their own secret spicy herbs sauce, it's no wonder those wings taste extremely good!

The pastas are also worth trying, and we recommend - Tom Yum Seafood Linguine with fresh prawn, mussel & calamari in Chef’s Special Tom Yam sauce. There's something unique about their Tom Yam sauce which opens your appetite. Thumbs up for Tom Yum Seafood Linguine!

The Beer Battered Fish n' Chips on the other hand was not the best we had. We prefer the batter to be thinner like those we had in Aussie? Oh we must be spoiled for having the best.

We chanced upon the time to have a pleasant chat with Chef Peter Neo, telling him how excellent the Tom Yum sauce was. Through our conversation, we could tell that he loves experimenting and inventing new recipes/dishes with a unique, one-of-kind touch to each.

Though we had no more room left for desserts, it was nice of Chef Peter  to have introduced the many Gelato flavors that the cafe offers to us while we picked out those we wanted to try a spoon. Some of which were interesting ones like, Salted Egg and Bak Kwa. They also serve two of my favorite alcoholic ice creams - Lychee Martini and Baileys.

Recommended by the Chef himself, we shall try Mao Shan Wang and their mini Lava Cake (Dark Knight) the next time around. Till then, what a hearty lunch we had!
